According to a new report by Cisco, the US has taken the lead in its race with China to become the global leader in 5G wireless networking. Cisco projects that 5G networking will account for 9% of North American mobile data connections by 2022, while 5G will only cover 4% of connections in Asia.
Mary Brown of Cisco believes that “[t]he U.S. has made a good start in changing policies to support the deployment of 5G, and as we look around the rest of the world, policy changes of the type we’ve seen here in the U.S. have not yet happened.” However, Brown added that Cisco does “expect that’s going to be changing over the next 12 to 18 months, and so the race to 5G is very real.”
