Google has secured patents for technology that would allow devices to scan its surroundings and then create ads based off what it detects. For example, a shirt on the floor with a print of Will Smith’s head could be read by a device with the technology and then used to tell its owner about his upcoming tour stop in this city. The device could also measure fashion taste and estimated income which, combined with demographic information it can generate from voices, could create hyper-specific ad sets. This kind of technology is becoming more widespread as data becomes more and more valuable. In another patent aimed at children, devices could alert parents if it detects their children using forbidden language, viewing disallowed content, or access areas of the home.
