Chinese media has reported that Senegal is the first West African country to sign a Belt and Road cooperation agreement with China. China has already funded a series of infrastructure projects in Senegal. The announcement comes during Chinese President Xi’s highly publicized tour in Africa, his fourth while in office. China has become Africa’s largest trading partner, and the former continues to deepen ties with governments there across many sectors. Xi has continued from his visit in Senegal to Rwanda, and then will finish in South Africa for the BRICS summit with Russia, Brazil, India, and the host country.
