Recent polls have showed the Sweden Democrats, a right-wing anti-immigration and anti-EU party, surging in the forecasting polls to 20%, up from 13% in the 2014 elections. 400,000 people have sought asylum in Sweden since 2012, and a strong backlash against the mass immigration and a recent surge in immigrant-related violent gang activity has pushed the party into greater national relevance. Mainstream political parties have said that they will not work with the Sweden Democrats, but a strong election showing could see elements of their platform integrated into the mainstream politics of the country.
