Local firearms producers using local blacksmithing capabilities are producing a wide variety of weaponry in the country, ranging from simple shotguns and muzzle loaders to assault rifles and sub-machine guns. These locally-produced weapons are used in up to 69% of all firearms-related crimes in some states. This research highlights the growing difficulties in the fight against the proliferation of small arms, as local markets are increasingly able to react to decreased international weapons flows.
