Addressing the threats posed by terrorism, organized crime, and others, the EU has adopted a strategy to combat illicit firearms, small arms and light weapons. The strategy document establishes objectives and measures that it will implement, as well as the roles of governments, police bodies, and polities responsible for the implementation. This new policy will involve increased levels of information sharing and cooperation, continuing the trend of closer intelligence, defense, and police cooperation within the EU.
