Nigerian separatist leader Mujahid Asari Dokubo, whose detention on treason charges since 2005 has sparked kidnappings in the oil-rich Niger Delta, was provisionally freed Thursday on health grounds. ‘I hereby order that the accused be released on medical grounds,’ judge Peter Olayiiwola told the federal High Court in Abuja, less than a week after Nigeria’s Supreme Court refused to grant Dokubo bail, saying his release would threaten national security.
