The sponsors of the Middle East peace process have kicked off a meeting in Cairo to discuss ways to revive talks between Israel and the Palestinians and to draw up a common response to a new Palestinian cabinet, diplomats told AFP. Wednesday’s meeting of the group, known as the Middle East “quartet”, was attended by US regional envoy David Welch as well as his counterparts from the United Nations, the European Union and Russia– Alvaro de Soto, Marc Otte and Sergei Iacovlev respectively.
