Sometimes charity makes strange bedfellows. It isn’t often that the U.S. and Libya find themselves out front together. But so far this year, they are the biggest donors to the World Food Program effort to feed refugees in one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, in Darfur, Sudan, according to the United Nations agency. The civil war in Darfur has displaced thousands of people, and humanitarian groups are responding. But the WFP, one of the biggest players, says it has received only $287 million out of the $746 million it needs to feed 6.1 million people in Sudan. So last Friday, the WFP said it was cutting rations to Darfur refugees for the second time since March. Instead of roughly 2,100 calories a day, refugees will receive just over 1,050. Full Story
