French President Jacques Chirac denied on Monday that Syria and its regime are being “targeted” by the international community. “The action of France and of the unanimous international community is not in any way directed against Syria and its regime,” said Jerome Bonnafont, the French presidential spokesperson, relaying Chirac’s comments during a meeting with Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Chirac’s remarks have softened since last week when he threatened Syria with sanctions if it “persists in not wanting to listen or understand.” Full Story
