China intends to set up a regional coordinating mechanism to fight terrorism, the first of its kind in China. The China Daily reports that the organization will involve 14 northern provinces and autonomous regions. Provincial anti-terror officials discussed the plan at a conference on Friday in Huhhot, capital of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. An official from the State anti-terrorism office, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that even though no large-scale terror attack has ever taken place in China, given the rising impact of international terrorism China cannot underestimate the potential terrorist threat to the country.
