On the second day of the Russia-North Korea summit in Vladivostok, North Korean leader Kim Jung-un blamed the US government for the collapse of the February US-North Korea summit, saying the US “took a unilateral attitude in bad faith” at the time, as a result of which “[t]he situation on the Korean peninsula and the region is now at a standstill” and may even “return to its original state.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that denuclearization of the Korean peninsula was very much possible, since “They [North Korea] only need guarantees about their security. That’s it. All of us together need to think about this.”
US President Trump has said that he walked away from the February summit because the North Korean delegation demanded that the US lift all sanctions on the regime. However, North Korea later denied that it had asked for full sanctions relief.
