A Syrian minister lashed out at allegations by US lawmakers that a “terrorist” attack here last week was staged by the security forces. Syrian authorities said four people — two gunmen, a police officer and a female passer-by — were killed and two attackers seriously wounded in a shootout that followed a bomb blast on a vacant former UN office on Tuesday. But details of the attack have been questioned in Washington, which is considering imposing sanctions on Damascus for its alleged support for terrorist groups. “The message from the Americans is clear: the life of an Arab is not worth the same as a Westerner and a terrorist act against Arabs does not deserve to be denounced,” Expatriates Minister Bussaina Shaaban told the Tishrin daily.
