The Homeland Security Department’s council of chief information officers on Tuesday revealed its list of areas the department should focus on in 2004. The council identified the following eight areas that DHS should prioritize this year: sharing information; mission rationalization, or determining the most cost effective way to meet objectives; information and technology security; developing a single information and technology infrastructure; developing a better enterprise architecture; using portfolio management techniques; good governance; and managing the employees who support information and technology programs. The list of priorities has not been officially approved by the department’s leadership, but should not come up against resistance, said Lee Holcomb, DHS’ chief technology officer, during a panel discussion hosted by the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association.
