Pakistan’s foreign ministry said on Saturday a South Asian regional summit would take place in Islamabad as planned in early January despite two attempts on the life of President Pervez Musharraf in recent weeks. The seven-nation meeting is seen as a key opportunity for nuclear-armed rivals Pakistan and India to consolidate recent moves to improve relations, soured for years by their dispute over Kashmir. “There has been absolutely no change of plans,” Foreign Secretary Riaz Khokar told a news conference. “There will be tight and stringent security arrangements during the entire summit period,” he said.
