A federal magistrate, giving a boost to the government’s case against a Palestinian accused of funding Islamic militants, ruled Thursday in Tampa that prosecutors could reassemble evidence related to documents that were shredded in error by court clerks. Sami Al-Arian, a former University of South Florida professor, is charged with funneling money and support from Chicago and Florida to the radical Palestinian group Islamic Jihad. The original search warrants and affidavits used to search Al-Arian’s home, his university office and a think tank in 1995 were destroyed later by clerks.
