Belgium has declared Kenya safe and pledged to increase its investments in the country. It would also encourage more of its citizens to visit the country, said ambassador Frederic Renard, adding that claims that Kenya was insecure due to threats of terrorist attacks were not genuine since terrorism was a global problem. “The whole world is generally unsafe and Kenya is just apart of it. It is not the only country that is facing terrorism threats the way some people have claimed,” said Mr Renard. “Kenya was faced with the unique challenge of sharing long boundaries with politically unstable countries, making it more vulnerable in the face of the global terror threats,” he said. “Belgium has decided that this will not be a reason to declare Kenya unsafe. Instead of issuing travel advisories, we will be doing something positive such as increasing flights here and encouraging investment by Belgian companies,” the envoy said at the start of a meeting between a Belgian trade delegation and Kenyan officials at the Grand Regency Hotel in Nairobi.
