Turkey came under pressure to revise its decision to send troops to Iraq following a suicide bombing at its embassy in Baghdad which many saw as a warning to Ankara to stay out of the war-torn country. “The government should assess this incident very carefully and think twice before giving the go-ahead to the soldiers,” Haluk Koc, a senior member of the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), told AFP. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Justice and Development Party (AKP) put a brave face after Tuesday’s attack, which killed the bomber and wounded several people, saying it was only the latest in a string of violent acts in increasingly turbulent Iraq. “Nobody can influence Turkey’s determination on establishing stability in Iraq,” Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said on the sidelines of the Organization of the Islamic Conference summit in Malaysia, Anatolia news agency reported.
