The armed Basque separatist group Eta vowed yesterday that the campaign of bombings it has been carrying out against tourism targets in Spain would continue this summer. “In 2003 Eta will once again strike hard against the Spanish tourist industry and it cannot guarantee that anyone who enters the war zone will not be injured,” a statement published in the Basque separatist newspaper, Gara, said. The group, which is on the EU’s official list of terrorist organisations, reiterated “the personal risk which [foreign tourists] will run if they choose Spain as a holiday destination”. Eta’s statement also claimed responsibility for eight attacks between June 14 and July 22, including two bombs which tore through hotels in the popular resorts of Benidorm and Alicante. Full Story
