U.S. soldiers killed at least 22 fighters who attacked a coalition military convoy in troubled southern Afghanistan, officials said today. The battle on Saturday was one of the biggest and deadliest waged by coalition forces in recent months, said Lt. Col. Douglas Lefforge, a U.S. military spokesman. Twelve coalition soldiers, including members of the U.S. Special Forces, were patrolling the area around Spin Boldak, near Afghanistan’s southern border with Pakistan, when a group of armed men fired on their convoy, Lefforge said.
