A suspected bomb killed three people, including a woman and a small child, when it exploded outside a police building in a province bordering Russia’s war-wracked Chechnya region on Thursday, police said. The explosion injured 20 policemen and residents of the town of Khasavyurt, in Dagestan, across the border from Chechnya and the site of a peace treaty signed by separatist rebels and the Kremlin after the first Chechen war ended in 1996. “We think the explosives were hidden in a small moped, our first impression is that it was a bomb,” said an interior ministry spokeswoman. “It happened about five metres (16 ft) from the police building.” “As a result of the explosion a woman and a small child, who happened to be walking by, were killed.
