Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has urged European leaders to undermine popular Palestinian support for Hamas by stepping into its role as the provider of medical, educational, social, and welfare services in the Gaza Strip. Sharon introduced the initiative during a two-and-a-half-hour dinner with British Prime Minister Tony Blair on Monday night. According to a senior Israeli source, Blair was told that social welfare activities contribute to the popular support for Hamas on the Palestinian street.
