At least seven Indonesian soldiers have been killed in the troubled province of Aceh in some of the fiercest fighting since a military offensive began last month. The casualty figure is the worst admitted by the military since the crackdown against the Free Aceh Movement (Gam) started on 19 May. The latest clashes started late on Monday in Bireun district and lasted until the early hours of Tuesday morning, said military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Firdaus Komarno. Seven soldiers were also injured during the fighting. There have not yet been reports of rebel casualties, but the military has claimed to have killed more than 150 rebels since its campaign began, a figure disputed by Gam. Full Story
