Germany said on Wednesday it was planning tight security for a fence-mending visit on Friday by Secretary of State Colin Powell, who arrived in the Saudi capital shortly after suicide bombings that killed at least 34. “We have no concrete suggestions of any kind of an attack, protest or anything like that. But of course the security authorities are preparing themselves for every eventuality,” an interior ministry spokesman told a government news conference. The spokesman said German authorities had already planned the highest security for Powell’s visit even before the attacks on Monday on expatriate compounds in Riyadh just hours before Powell’s arrival there that Washington blamed on al Qaeda.
