An Egyptian, a Somali and two Iraqi Kurds suspected of links with the Ansar-al-Islam terror group in northern Iraq have been arrested, an Italian police source said on Tuesday. The source confirmed the arrests had taken place during the night in Milan and in another northern Italian city, following a detailed story about the operation in the daily Corriere della Sera. The source, a member of Milan’s anti-terror police, said no more details could be given because the operation was continuing. He had earlier identified the four as two Egyptians and two Kurds. Police from a special anti-terrorism unit had intercepted calls between the men and villages in northern Iraq, which stopped after the start of the U.S.-led war on March 20 but resumed recently, according to the Corriere della Sera. Another police source said the men were charged with “conspiracy to take part in international terrorism,” while the two Iraqi Kurds were also charged with people smuggling. Full Story
