Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz denied on Friday that his country had links with terrorist groups and promised that Baghdad would do everything necessary to prove it had no weapons of mass destruction. Aziz, who earlier on Friday met Pope John Paul II, told a news conference that European countries should not join in any U.S.-led attack on Iraq, saying such a war would be viewed by Muslims as a Christian Crusade. Speaking after chief U.N. arms inspector Hans Blix delivered a mixed verdict on Iraqi disarmament to the U.N. Security Council, Aziz said Baghdad would work with United Nations weapons teams for as long as necessary to show it was innocent. “Iraq does not have weapons of mass destruction,” Aziz said. “We will do whatever possible, in our hands, in our capabilities, to help them to reach the ultimate truth about the absence of weapons of mass destruction.” Full Story
