“Chevron Corp. (CVX) Saturday shut down some production in Nigeria’s Niger Delta, following what militants claim was an attack.
The shut-in–though small at 20,000 barrels a day–may be the first successful sabotage since a militant ceasefire last summer and raises concerns over the viability of Nigeria’s recent output recovery.
In an email, Chevron confirmed a breach on its Makaraba-Utonana pipeline in Delta State on Friday. It said it led to the production shut in of about 20,000 barrels a day from the platforms supplying the pipeline.”
