The administration of President Alvero Uribe has had a particularly successful year in curtailing the activities of the right-wing paramilitary group, the AUC , and the lesser left-wing guerrilla group, the ELN . Both the AUC and the ELN have begun the process of peace negotiations and/or limited disarmament. As predicted by TRC in the 2005 TRC projections (WAR Report), Uribe has chosen to negotiate with the AUC and the ELN while continuing his general disdain for the FARC . The Colombian military has shown considerable success in their continued waging of counter-insurgency campaigns against FARC guerrillas and have won a large portion of the Colombian populace back to their side. In this way, the government continues to isolate the FARC further from the Colombian people and is making it more unlikely that the FARC will be able to continue their campaign.
