The federal government?s newly established Information-Sharing Environment and Information Sharing Council have the potential to aid the US in it Global War on Terrorism. However, it is far from certain that these information sharing tools will ever live up to their promised potential.

The Information-Sharing Environment and the Information Sharing Council have the potential to aid US national security by mandating ?the interchange of terrorism information among agencies.? Moreover, the Information Sharing Council will place the Secretaries of State, Treasury, Defense, Commerce, Energy, and Homeland Security; the Attorney General; the Director of National Intelligence, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Office of Management and Budget, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the National Counterterrorism Center; and other heads of departments or agencies in direct contact with one another. This direct interaction may lead to both formal and informal information sharing, which may increase the government?s efficiency in the war on terrorism.
