While suicide bombings in Afghanistan are nothing new, there has been a shift among the Taliban and remnants of al-Qaeda to bring the tactics of Iraq to Afghanistan. The new tactic is part of a campaign of attrition aimed at making those providing security bleed. Graffiti on a wall in Kabul stating ?slow death? graphically illustrates the goal of the insurgents.

On November 14, 2005 a suicide bomber drove his vehicle into an International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) vehicle, killing one peacekeeper and injuring seven people (see image). This attack took place in the Pul-e-Charkhi neighborhood, as ISAF peacekeepers traveled on the main road from Kabul to Jalalabad. The last suicide bombing, a few months ago, on this road killed 12 individuals.
