Washington DC?s metro transit service (see logo) has mandated terrorism deterrence training for all 10,000 of its employees, including its white-collar workers. Metro?s operational staff had undergone similar training since 2003, and the new widened scope of participants will begin training immediately following Labor Day. Metro has until now trained bus drivers, train operators, and station attendants.

With the recent bombings and the attempted bombings of London?s subway system, Metro officials felt expansion of the training to all its employees was relevant and timely. The class, developed and taught by Capt. Jeff Delinski and Officer Jonathan Taylor of the Metro Transit Police Department, features a curriculum that includes how to identify a potential terrorist, what they can do to prevent attacks, how to spot a potential suicide bomber, and how to communicate descriptions of suspicious individuals.
