Saudi Arabian security officials have arrested or killed nearly all of the men listed on the previous two most wanted lists issued by the Kingdom. The first contained 19 men; the second, issued in December 2003, listed 26 names. The newest list, put out on June 28, contains 36 names, 29 of which are Saudi citizens. Some 21 people on the list are believed to be out of the country, possibly fighting in Iraq . Last week, Zarqawi reported that one of the men at large from a previous most wanted list had been killed in Iraq (Intel Report).

The list is representative of hard work by Saudi intelligence to figure out who remains from al-Qaeda?s branch in the Arabian Peninsula and who could potentially cause more trouble in the Kingdom. Since the formation of the al-Qaeda group in Saudi Arabia , 90 civilians and 40 security officers have been killed in attacks and gun battles. Though the group has failed to carry out a truly successful attack in the past nine months, statements put out by the group claim that it is reconstituting its ranks. It is also possible that the rank and file members may be fighting in Iraq, gaining training, contacts, and experience.
