Top German official says Algerian-based al-Qaida group a threat to Europe
An insurgent group that has claimed responsibility for a number of attacks in Algeria could pose a threat to Western Europe, the president of Germany’s Federal Intelligence Service said Thursday.
Ernst Uhrlau said al-Qaida in Islamic North Africa is attempting to expand its sphere of influence beyond a stronghold in Algeria, where its attacks have included a bombing of UN headquarters in Algeria in December. (Full Story)
