British mercenary Simon Mann had been tapped to head Equatorial Guinea’s presidential guard after a 2004 plot to topple the west African nation’s leader, the court trying his case learned Friday. Documents shown at the trial of Mann and his co-accused indicate that he would also have been in charge of recruiting guard members and given exclusive rights in a number of economic sectors.
