The number of recorded offences committed by girls has risen by 25 percent in three years, while recorded offences by young men, the majority of all cases, fell by two percent, the Youth Justice Board said Thursday. The board, which oversees the youth justice system in England and Wales, said in its annual report that girls under the age of 18 committed over 59,000 crimes in 2006/07, up by 12,000 from 2003/04.
