The United States and Georgia advised Russia on Tuesday against supplying arms to separatists in the breakaway Georgian region of Abkhazia, a move that Russia ruled out for now. Russia’s envoy to NATO, meanwhile, warned against putting Georgia on track to join that alliance, saying it would deepen the divides within the former Soviet republic and bolster separatist campaigns in Abhkazia and another restive Georgian region, South Ossetia.
