Police killed six alleged drug gang members in Rio de Janeiro on Friday, while a bodyguard for the state security chief was shot dead what appeared to be an attempted robbery. The six were killed after drug gang members opened fire on police, who were trying to impede their invasion a shantytown controlled by rivals, according to a Rio de Janeiro state police officer, who declined to be identified in accordance with department policy.
