The Peace Assembly appealed to the government to allow different ethnic identities to develop in Turkey and said the Kurdish issue should be solved in Turkey in 2008 “and not across the border” in northern Iraq. In a New Year’s message the Peace Assembly said as a first step towards peace it invites the government to give up its “assimilationist policies, to accept different identities, and to offer the resources to develop these identities.
