Ivory Coast rebels fire shots to demand bonuses

Rebels in Ivory Coast fired shots in the air on Tuesday to demand payment of bonuses before the Muslim feast of Eid al-Adha which will be celebrated here on Wednesday, a senior rebel and a Reuters witness said. Troops in the rebel New Forces stronghold of Bouake stole private and company vehicles including a pick-up from national power company and fired shots in the air near the rebels’ headquarters before ending their protest shortly after.
