Japan and the United States ended a dispute over Tokyo’s funding of U.S. bases on Wednesday by agreeing on a small cut starting in 2009, Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura said. Negotiations over “host nation support” had been tough, with deeply indebted Japan keen to slash its $1.3 billion contribution to the upkeep of bases on its soil.
