Official results haven’t been released yet but that didn’t stop Ecuador’s president from claiming victory in an election to create an assembly to write a new constitution that could usher in a socialist model of government. A quick count by a local citizens’ group at thousands of polls indicated strong support for the president’s party in Sunday’s vote. But no official results were released to support President Rafael Correa’s initial claim of triumph, and complete results are expected to take at least 20 days. Full Story
