Paraguay’s president: Oviedo can’t run for office
President Nicanor Duarte said Friday that he thinks a former coup plotter is still prohibited from running for the nation’s top office next year despite his parole this week from a 10-year prison sentence. Ex-Gen. Lino César Oviedo, 67, was freed on parole for good behavior Thursday, after serving just over five years on a conviction for trying to overthrow President Juan Carlos Wasmosy in April 1996.
