Bangladesh police battle mill workers

Police in southeastern Bangladesh fired tear gas and used batons Thursday to disperse hundreds of stone-throwing factory workers, leaving one worker dead and about 100 injured, authorities and witnesses said. Violence broke out after the state-run Amin Jute Mills Ltd. failed to pay 11 weeks of overdue salaries to workers in Chittagong, 135 miles southeast of the capital, Dhaka, police commissioner Mizanur Rahman said.
