The recently completed “surge” of US troops into Baghdad has led to a decline in attacks against civilians but an increase in attacks against US-led forces, a senior Iraqi security official said Monday. “There has been a tangible reduction in terror attacks on civilians all over Baghdad, but there is a rise in attacks on US forces carrying out combat missions,” Brigadier General Qassim Atta said.
