Canadian Aboriginal groups have staged protests across the country. Their aim is to bring attention to poverty, health and social problems facing Indigenous people living on and off the country’s reserves. Census figures show about 1.3 million Canadians, or about 4.4 per cent of the population, have some Aboriginal ancestry, including Indian, Metis and Inuit.
