Representatives of Iran and the European Union were due to meet Saturday in Lisbon to seek to defuse the growing crisis over Tehran’s refusal to suspend its uranium enrichment programme as demanded by the UN Security Council. The EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana and Iran’s nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani were due to begin talks at 1600 GMT, less than 24 hours after Larijani met Mohamed ElBaradei, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
