Protests against Britain’s decision to honour Salman Rushdie are set to take place across Pakistan today, a day after a hardline cleric bestowed a title on Osama bin Laden in response to the author’s knighthood. Pakistan, a close ally of Britain and the US, has condemned the granting of knighthood for Rushdie, who has been accused of insulting Islam in his novel The Satanic Verses.
