The chief of the NATO alliance, in Quebec City on Friday to shore up Canadian support for the mission, will meet with 2,000 Quebec-based soldiers awaiting their turn to go to Kandahar. NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, who heads the 26-nation alliance, is expected to meet what the Canadian Forces calls “le troupe de Quebec, the fighting Vandoos,” which is sending a battle group nearly 2,000 strong to Afghanistan in August.
