U.S., Israel map Palestinian approach

Hamas’ bloody takeover of the Gaza Strip will dominate talks in Washington between President Bush and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, with the two leaders coordinating a strategy to freeze out Hamas in Gaza and strengthen Fatah in the West Bank. The Islamic militant rout of the moderate Fatah forces has upended the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but also given the United States and Israel what a spokeswoman called “new possibilities” for an old problem.
