Nearly 100 people, many of them children, have been sent to hospital after an outbreak of encephalitis B in southwest China, state media said Sunday. More than 30 of the patients were being treated at Shidian county hospital in Baoshan, a city in Yunnan province near the border with Myanmar, the Xinhua news agency reported. The hospital has received more than 40 encephalitis B patients over the past week, later allowing some with milder cases to return home, the agency said, citing an unnamed staff member. Dozens of others were treated at other hospitals, Xinhua said. The provincial health authority said it had sent an expert panel of top paediatricians to the county, an indication that many of the patients were children, according to Xinhua. Full Story
